As if big announcements from Meta and Snap with their augmented reality plays weren't enough, Microsoft confirms its HoloLens 2 has been quietly discontinued. Interested parties can still pick up a unit until stock is depleted. Then it's lights out for the 5-year-old headset.
According to UploadVR, Microsoft said that critical security and software supports would still be published until the end of 2027. However, Microsoft would not confirm if this would be followed by a HoloLens 3.
Microsoft was early and ahead of its time in the enterprise AR space, which is being pursued by companies such as Apple, Magic Leap, and Meta today. But rumors of a new headset proved little more than that amid corporate downsizing.
