Since its launch, Meta's Threads has attempted to take advantage of network effects from other social networks Facebook and Instagram through cross-posting and appearing in a carousel in relevant threads. The company now will test a feature that allows you to share Instagram Reels to threads.
A researcher at the app, Alessandro Paluzzi, discovered a new feature being worked on in the compose box for Threads, which will let you pick Reels from your account and post them on Threads. This feature is indeed under testing, confirmed by the company to TechCrunch.
According to Paluzzi, hitting the Instagram button from the compose box inside Threads will bring up a grid of your Instagram posts and Reels, and you can then select which Reels to share in Threads.
Many users have already been posting their Instagram posts and Reels to Threads to gain more followers and better engagement on their content. This new button might make this process easier for them.
Meta started testing a feature earlier in the year that automatically cross-posts content from Instagram to Threads. It was also testing a similar feature on Facebook earlier in the year.
Last year, to increase the visibility of threads posts and encourage more people to start using its newest social network, Meta started showing carousels of Threads posts on Facebook and Instagram. Some people didn't like seeing their posts appear as suggestions to users on Instagram and Facebook, so quietly, Meta rolled out an option that allows people to opt out of the recommendation program.
