Meta is also bringing Crayta, a game development platform where you can build and play games with your friends in real time, which kind of reminds me of Roblox, to Facebook Gaming's cloud streaming service. According to the company, Crayta provides an easy-to-use developer toolkit and brings the field of game creation closer to everyone, whether building on mobile or desktop.

In June 2021, the company acquired Unit 2 Games, the studio behind Crayta. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed but all of the personnel on at Unit 2 Games were reportedly taken onboard as part of the acquisition. Originally launching as an exclusive to Google Stadia, the game rolled out to the Epic Games Store last year.

"Historically if you wanted to have something like this run in this high quality of a 3D environment, that would be really hard to render in a browser or on phones but being able to do it with cloud infrastructure and then send it down across the network after having already rendered it in the cloud is a pretty big advance," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a video about the launch.

Users would be able to play it without having to download it from their computers with its cloud streaming service that Facebook Gaming is offering Crayta. It would be free for any owner of a Facebook account to build free-to-play games.

Many consider the metaverse to be 3D experiences you can have in virtual and augmented reality, but I believe what Crayta shows is that you can both build and enjoy these kinds of experiences really easily on all kinds of 2D environments, including just within the Facebook App on phones and on computers, said Zuckerberg.

The company notes that Crayta's platform can power the creation and distribution of a very basic multiplayer game in as short a timeframe as 15 minutes, and no coding or other special skills are necessary to do it.
The games can be developed by up to 20 people simultaneously through the crtaa platform.
Meta continues investing in solid steps toward the metaverse with the launch of Crayta on Facebook Gaming. Although true "metaverse" may not yet exist, the buzzword has been immensely favored by Zuckerberg and Meta as much in the last year, which even fueled its recent corporate branding change. In early spring, Meta had revealed the financials for the first time from its Reality Labs division as well as stated it lost over $10 billion during last year. The company reports that it expects the losses only to balloon this year, signifying that Meta apparently has unlimited funds to burn on developing the metaverse and probably has plenty of time to do so ahead of other smaller companies.

In addition to the news today, Zuckerberg also mentions that Facebook Gaming is expanding the availability of its cloud games catalog to Western Europe. According to Meta, this is a crucial step for the company since such infrastructure will be critical in delivering metaverse experiences across Meta's platforms.
