Meta Acquires the Threads.com Domain

If you were uncertain about where to locate Threads online, this might simplify the process.
Meta Acquires the Threads.com Domain

Here's an easy one that might actually make it somewhat easier for people to find Meta's Threads platform on the web.

Meta has reportedly now secured the rights to the "threads.com" domain name which had been owned by a messaging company that went by the same name reports TechCrunch.

Well, Threads app has only been available at "Threads.net" until now because Meta could not wrest the URL away from the other Threads company. However, last June, the other Threads was sold to Shopify, which terminates that other Threads company as an entity.

And now, domain registration data for websites indicates that "Threads.com" is owned by Instagram, probably meaning you will soon be able to access the Threads app via the .com listing.

Which isn't a huge shift, and will probably make little to no difference in how you actually use the app.

But then again, "Threads.com" has skyrocketed recently in popularity since Meta's launch of its text-based app, so one would be left wondering whether a lot of people had been heading to the wrong address.

Does that mean a lot more people are now signing up to Threads as opposed to a random messaging app?

I mean, I don't believe it's going to add millions to Threads' user base, but it may be a contributor to overall growth in the app.

Meta hasn't said anything yet about plans for "Threads.com".
