Marc Andreessen, general partner at VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, took the stage earlier this month at the Ray Summit to discuss AI. CFO.com plucked out some of the best quotes so you don't have to sit through the full interview.

"Maybe all of these companies are in a race to the bottom," said Andreessen when discussing large language model development.

While that may sound like stating the obvious, many new start-ups and experienced venture investors listen up when Andreessen speaks. To put things in perspective, his firm is also an investor in OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT. The VC led a $300 million round that valued OpenAI at between $27 billion and $29 billion in early 2023.

Things have changed dramatically since then. Andreessen compared the current stage of AI development with "selling rice," meaning that there isn't much product differentiation. "It turns out anybody can make an LLM," he said, invoking commodification.
