LinkedIn Introduces In-Feed Video Carousels

A fresh approach to boost video engagement on the platform.
LinkedIn Introduces In-Feed Video Carousels

You might have already seen this, as LinkedIn has been gradually introducing them over the past few weeks. The professional social network is now emphasizing video content through in-feed video carousels.

As illustrated in this example, LinkedIn's new video carousels offer an expansive, side-scrolling display of video clips. The videos featured are algorithmically tailored to users based on their in-app activity and profile details. Tapping on any clip takes you to LinkedIn's full-screen video feed, which is presented in a vertical format, similar to TikTok. This feed was launched in March as part of LinkedIn's initiative to adapt to evolving content trends.

This new feature effectively promotes LinkedIn's growing library of user-generated video content, especially targeting younger audiences who prefer video updates. In fact, last month, LinkedIn reported that 1.5 million pieces of content are uploaded to the app every minute, with video being the fastest-growing content type. Video uploads have increased by 34% year-over-year, highlighting its rising significance.

However, I believe LinkedIn might benefit more from introducing a dedicated video feed that emphasizes live streams to showcase live events and industry updates. The TikTok-style, short-form videos may not resonate well within the LinkedIn context, as this snackable content format doesn’t quite align with the deeper engagement professionals often seek on the platform.

That said, with video engagement on the rise and more users uploading video clips, LinkedIn should leverage this trend. The non-intrusive carousels displayed in-stream represent a cautious experiment in this area. While I’m skeptical about their potential to significantly boost video engagement, only time will tell.
