LinkedIn has introduced an "Open to Volunteer" option.

LinkedIn is introducing a new feature that lets people indicate a willingness to volunteer-and enable charities to attract prospective volunteers.
LinkedIn's new "Open to Volunteer" feature adds a tab of information to your profile, which highlights what causes you're interested in contributing to.
 According to LinkedIn:

With 75% of members on LinkedIn saying they want to volunteer, we're rolling out a new feature called Open to Volunteer. It makes it easy for the member* to find open volunteer opportunities with non-profits whose mission work aligns with their skills and interests, ". And as the skills required to do our jobs change by nearly 70% by 2030, volunteering not only provides a unique way to develop in-demand skills, such as communication and empathy, but it fosters a greater sense of purpose and inspires connection within our communities.

The "Volunteer" option will appear in the "Open to" dropdown list below their profile picture as a way for LinkedIn members to express interest in volunteering opportunities.

"There, they can add causes they care about; their skills and preferences, like location, if they want to volunteer in-person or virtually," she explained.

Once live, LinkedIn will surface relevant volunteer opportunities in-stream, as well as give the ability to receive alerts for opportunities that may interest you.

It may be the best way to encourage more volunteers and to enable members to express their charitable interests. Whilst as highlighted above, it will serve as another avenue through which charitable groups will find interested users although this may also lead to an increase in DM outreaching concerning the same.

This is not necessarily a terrible thing, but could be, and I suspect that some will use this as a virtue signaling marker rather than looking to participate in such things.

However, the positives are likely to outweigh the potential negatives along these lines, and it may be a valuable means by which to drive volunteer contributions.
