In fact, LinkedIn is killing a series of its templated posts. These are the celebratory post types within the app, containing lightly animated graphics of varied types.
These are the templates that LinkedIn is removing according to a message it will send to LinkedIn members who have used these templates previously.
Out of these, only the confetti one appears to stay, so LinkedIn is stepping away from this graphic feel for its posts.
For the message to the user, using the word to users by Ahmed Ghanem:
"We are eliminating a few rarely used templates, like Appreciation, Welcome and Skill Assessment Badge. Remember, even with these changes, you can still celebrate new teammates and professional accomplishments of all types with your own text, images and videos."
Oh, great, LinkedIn is giving you permission to keep posting to its platform so it can monetize your content.
Jokes aside, it is pretty minor change, probably intended to get more users posting original content to this app. And those graphics do look a bit outdated, so maybe, this is a good update for the professional social app, removing some generic visuals from your feed.
Some people probably really like this art style and presentation, so for them, it could be a blow. But again, with LinkedIn putting more emphasis on video, the impetus is likely to get more users sharing more of their own original images to accompany their updates, including videos.
Also, LinkedIn is clearly very excited about generative AI, so they are probably working on a new option that will allow you to generate your own post backgrounds for this kind of announcement.
Which will look just as good with distorted cartoon images and extra fingers all around for your big updates.
No word on this yet, but I'm guessing that's what's coming next on this front.
