Life 360, the family location services company, just released a new notification that will inform friends and family when you've reached your destination, after a flight.
It said that this feature uses your phone's sensors to measure location, altitude, and speed in order to determine whether or not you are taking a flight. Besides, its algorithms can now guess the takeoff and landing times and will now make an announcement to family members when you connect to the network after landing.
The company said that the landing notification feature is a viable substitute to online flight trackers or waiting for the traveler to send updates to their circle. In fact, all users with the latest app update have enabled the feature and can turn it off through the Flight Detection toggle in the settings.
Apparently, Life360, which boasts over 66 million active users on its platform, said that individuals within a flight-taking user's circle can see a plane icon as a movement indicator - a move beyond the current set of activities such as walking, running, biking, and driving.
Chris Hulls, chief executive of the company told TechCrunch that it wants to focus on safety and protection updates of the inner circle user. This CEO commented by comparing Apple's solution saying it is quite generic. He further says that Life 360 has an upper hand since it's available on both iOS and Android.
Without more details, the company said it plans to roll out this year a new Tile lineup, which it purchased last 2021 for $205 million.
"We are going to make a unified hardware lineup that is far more robust than Apple, which is one size fits all. We will have Bluetooth tags and GPS devices with LTE connections and it will be a more holistic service," he said.
Life360 launched its premium membership in Canada in 2022 and in the U.K. in 2023. This year, it will take the paid tier to Australia.
