This seems like a minor update in the face of Instagram's much bigger new product launch. But it's a potentially handy one either way, with Instagram adding the capacity for users to now include up to three collaborators on any feed post or Reel.
Instagram first launched Collaborative Posts back in 2021, which gives users the capacity to share credit for a single post with another account.
That's been limited to a single collaborative account so far, but that now expands to include more partners on a single post or a Reel, with all contributors with access to organic insights, including view counts, like counts, and much more.
Which will provide far more ways for users to engage with each other in-stream - although paid partnerships will use the Paid Partnership Label process rather than this type of tagging, something especially important considering evolving laws around influencer marketing disclosure.
But for everyday users, it might extend the ability to tag and even boost their friends within the app, sharing other accounts for their followers to look at and follow.
Instagram has looked to incorporate more collaboration tools over the past year, among them including Collaborative Collections in DMs.
It can also make the platform more sticky through the engagement function by encouraging people to make more interactions that would go to support community networks in the app.
And it may not be allowed to be used for paid promotion, but then again, could also serve as a means to expose some artwork or projects that friends are undertaking-which may naturally still include their professional works, even if not under the business or creator's account.
It's not clear to me what the regulations are around disclosure on such cross-promotions. Note: This is not legal advice, but could be another consideration within the bounds of personal sharing.
