Instagram is trialing new profile cards with a select group of creators, offering an additional method to promote their profiles and display their content.
Instagram's updated profile cards feature a digital flip design, showcasing a QR code on one side for instant connections, while the other side provides a profile overview and summary.
The profile overview includes your photo, bio, profile category, and business links, offering a convenient snapshot of your Instagram presence. This could simplify the process for users to connect on the app with just a quick scan and follow.
However, the key question remains: how many users will actually take advantage of this feature? Instagram has offered QR codes for profiles since 2018, but awareness and utilization among users appear to be low.
Despite multiple format changes and adjustments to their placement within the app—likely hindering familiarity—various iterations of Instagram's QR codes have been available for some time.
Now, Instagram seems eager to reinvigorate its focus on QR codes, having introduced QR codes for Broadcast Channels back in June.
Will QR codes finally gain traction and encourage more users to scan digital links to access profiles on the app?
While they may not revolutionize the experience, these visually appealing additions offer another way to showcase your Instagram presence and provide users with an easy method to access your content.
Perhaps Instagram should consider creating physical copies of these cards for creators to utilize, similar to what it did with its Threads profile cards for their first anniversary.
That would be a great idea, although it would certainly be more expensive.
For now, users will have to make do with the Instagram profile cards.
To access your IG QR code, simply tap on the “Share profile” option on your profile. Keep in mind that the new profile cards are still in limited testing.
