According to Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, the social network is testing a feed comprised only of posts from Meta Verified and legacy verified users. The new toggle will appear underneath the "Following" and "Favorites" options listed when you click on the Instagram logo in the app.
We are testing a way for people to find and discover accounts in their Instagram feed and reels by flicking to only Meta Verified accounts, Mosseri wrote on the Instagram broadcast channel. "We are exploring this as a new control for people and as a way for businesses and creators to get discovered,".
Two months after Instagram supposedly denied a feature like this, telling TechCrunch that it was not testing a feature of this nature, a new post from reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi has shown that the code in both the iOS and Android Instagram apps is indeed showing a feed filter that would be for Meta Verified subscribers.
Probably, Instagram perceives this new feed as an opportunity to attract people into subscribing to Meta Verified, which they can now get a chance for increased visibility. Meta Verified costs $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on mobile, offering customers a blue checkmark, improved customer service, increased visibility and reach in search and comments, exclusive stickers, and much more.
Meta is essentially borrowing from Elon Musk's playbook with the Verified-only feed and Meta Verified in general. After being bought by the Tesla Chief Executive Officer late last fall, Twitter, now X, launched paid verification for $8 a month as part of the relaunched subscription service, X Premium. The subscribers get a number of features, such as having a tab for Verified in the Notifications of users. Other features that the service contains include an edit button and supports longer posts.
