Now launched as a live test after months of internal testing, the collaborative posts option from Instagram will allow others to contribute to your posts on a carousel feed-a new engagement option in the app.
This new feature allows users to let others submit photos or videos to be put inside the carousel post. So if the post is a photo of the party for example, or a group outing, users will be able to ask others to contribute their own perspectives to create a collective collection.
This would mean that the individual creator would be able to accept or reject any submissions, and that post would only appear on the creators' timeline and not anywhere else.
Each addition would reflect, along with the handle of individual contributors, when that post was authored.
It may also act as a method to increase more in-stream engagement and interaction, which is part of IG's move to lean into more collaborative posting options.
Also, this month, Instagram added the feature to share a Story with multiple group lists at once, in order to sort who will see your update.
Instagram has also recently added the ability to share feed posts with Close Friends only and gives you another option for making a more enclosed group interaction.
These kinds of more collaborative, group-engagement aligned options make for more appealing ways of using the app-to-app interaction in more intimate groups as opposed to trying to maximize reach via public posting.
But as such, IG would do well to look towards more direct engagement options and could be the good way to encourage more participation while giving Instagram more insight into who your close connections are which could help define discovery.
The company is testing the new collaborative posting option with selected users.
