This could be interesting.
Instagram is coming close to launching a new WhatsApp sticker for Instagram Stories. This would allow brands to drive DM connection from within the messaging app. The New WhatsApp Sticker works toward prompting a DM conversation for brands. The WhatsApp sticker will be made available to businesses that have connected their WhatsApp Business number to the client's IG account.
That could be useful because in most regions, both WhatsApp and DM connection are on the rise.
This is particularly true on WhatsApp, which has experienced a huge surge in usage in the U.S. in recent years as more people seek to connect through private chats rather than broadcasting their updates to the public. In general, the stridency and debate, and even the performative character of social media have done much to turn more and more people off posting updates for everyone to see instead of sharing updates with just a few close friends.
That has resulted in social media resembling more closely discovery services in which users find quality content in-stream, and then share it over DM. Indeed, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has pointed out more than once that today's users share far more in their DMs and Stories than they share to the main feed.
This has led to a paradigm shift in online interactions, and hence now, brands strive to find novel ways of interacting by maximizing their connection in accordance with these trends.
Meta, for example, says that "Click-to-Message" ads are a big winner, and this new WhatsApp sticker is essentially a free version of the same. You won't get the same reach, of course, and you'll only be connecting with your existing followers. But it's another means to align with those trends, and meet your audience where they're engaging.
Maybe that could be a good addition and something worth testing out if/when it will be rolled out.
Instagram is testing the new WhatsApp sticker in limited release to select users.
