Instagram Introduces Nighttime Nudges to Encourage Teens to Log Off for the Night

Building on the latest round of teen safety features, Instagram has today added new nighttime nudges on the app to prompt when users are late at night using their phones and just need to switch them off for tonight.
According to Instagram :

Sleep is really important, and especially for teens, and so we're launching these new nudge features to appear the next time a teen has used Instagram more than 10 minutes past bedtimes in areas like Reels or Direct Messages. It would give them a heads-up of the time and tell them to close the app.

This would be seen in the preceding example, where the message is pretty simple, akin to the electronic version of the knocking on the door by the parent who requests you to shut down for the night.

What all parents of teenagers have ever had to do at one stage or another. Mobile addiction is real, and however hard you try, there will come a point at which your child will sneak that phone into their room just to keep messaging that particular friend.

So, this can be useful, but I would think that most of these kids will just ignore this and continue on.

So it's not a substitute for the old "I will take that thing away from you if you cannot control yourself," but it's another element in Instagram's broader teen safety and regulation push.
