ChatGPT, the AI-powered chatbot platform developed by OpenAI, just keeps getting bigger. Its latest addition is a store called GPT Store, which sells other AI-powered applications and services. The new memories feature lets you save preferences so that chats are more tailored to you. Soon it's going to be able to give you an even upgraded mode of voice, and let you interact with the platform more or less in real-time.

For this reason, someone might probably ask, how much does ChatGPT cost? Sadly, it's actually a very tricky question to answer. OpenAI has an array of plans for ChatGPT, both paid and free, targeting clients ranging from individual customers up to nonprofits, small and medium-sized businesses, educational institutions, and enterprises.

To keep on top of the different ChatGPT plans available, we have created a guide to ChatGPT pricing. We're going to keep this refreshed as new plans continue to roll out.

ChatGPT free
The free version of ChatGPT was pretty bare of what it could do. Well, that's changed lately as OpenAI has rolled out some new capabilities and underlying generative AI models.

Free customers of the service receive full access to OpenAI's flagship GPT-4o model, responses augmented with content from the web, access to the GPT Store and the ability to upload files and photos and ask questions about those uploads. Users can also store chat preferences as "memories" and leverage advanced data analysis, a ChatGPT feature that can "reason over" (i.e., analyze data from) files such as spreadsheets and PDFs.

The free ChatGPT plan has a few downsides: daily limits on the GPT-4o model depend on demand. When a user exhausts those limits, they're automatically switched over — temporarily — to OpenAI's lesser-capable GPT-3.5 model. Data analysis features are also missing from the free ChatGPT version, as we detail below.

ChatGPT Plus
For the individual users who would love to have a more effective ChatGPT, there's ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month.
ChatGPT Plus offers 5 times the capacity of ChatGPT free and comes with early and priority access to newer tools, such as an OpenAI macOS client for ChatGPT.

Furthermore, users subscribing to ChatGPT Plus will receive a feature called GPT-4o that can carry out data analysis of enhanced type. This will allow users to create interactive charts and tables based on datasets. Users can upload files directly from their Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive or even from devices for analysis.

ChatGPT Team
Let's say you own a small business or manage an org that has more than one license for ChatGPT, along with collaborative features. For that, ChatGPT Team might come in handy: it's $30 per user per month or $25 per user per month billed annually for up to 149 users.

ChatGPT Team is meant to provide a dedicated workspace and admin tools for managing teamwork. All users of the ChatGPT Team have access to OpenAI's latest models and the tools listed above, which enable ChatGPT to analyze, edit, and extract information from files. More than this, ChatGPT Team enables people who are working within a team to create custom apps based on OpenAI models, just like those available in the GPT Store. These apps can be tailored for specific use cases or departments, or tuned on a team's data.

ChatGPT Enterprise
The corporate-focused plan of ChatGPT called ChatGPT Enterprise is available for large organizations whereby an organization that needs more than 149 licenses for ChatGPT, to say the least, has the option. Since OpenAI does not publish any price, the reported cost is about $60 per user per month with a minimum of 150 users and a 12-month contract.

Enterprise adds enterprise-grade privacy and analysis capabilities on top of the vanilla version of ChatGPT, with enhanced performance and customization options. There is a dedicated workspace and admin console to help manage how employees in an organization might use ChatGPT, such as through single sign-on, domain verification, and a dashboard of usage and engagement statistics.

Shareable conversation templates are integrated directly into ChatGPT Enterprise so users can create internal workflows and bots using ChatGPT, while credits to Open AI's API platform will permit companies to build completely custom ChatGPT-powered solutions if they like.

ChatGPT Enterprise users also benefit from priority access to models and lines of OpenAI's expertise, including an account team, training, and consolidated invoicing. They are also eligible for Business Associate Agreements with OpenAI, which are stipulated by U.S. law to be in place by all companies wishing to use tools such as ChatGPT for handling of private health information, such as medical records.

ChatGPT Edu
OpenAI describes the product as the "latest from the company," designed to deliver a version of ChatGPT built specifically for universities and those students who attend them — along with faculty, staff researchers, and teams that provide operations on campus. As of publication, pricing hasn't yet been publicly disclosed or reported secondhand. We will update this section should that change.

The ChatGPT Edu is much the same as the Enterprise edition, except being SCIM enabled, an open protocol that allows easier deployment and management of cloud identity and access. OpenAI plans to add SCIM to the ChatGPT Enterprise in the future as well. Just like the ChatGPT Enterprise, customers using ChatGPT Edu also get data analysis tools, admin controls, single sign-on, advanced security, and the capability to develop and share their own customized chatbots.

ChatGPT Edu also receives the newest OpenAI models and, crucially, longer message limits.

OpenAI for Nonprofits
OpenAI for Nonprofits represents OpenAI's relatively early explorations into nonprofit technology solutions. It's not a dedicated ChatGPT plan, per se, but rather a set of discounts tailored to eligible organizations.

ChatGPT Team is available to nonprofits at the discounted rate of $20 per user/month. In contrast, large nonprofits can get a discount of 50% on the charges made from using ChatGPT Enterprise, which comes to around $30 per user.

Eligibility is pretty strict in this regard, though. While nonprofits based anywhere in the world are eligible, OpenAI isn't open for applications from academic, medical, religious, or governmental institutions as of now.
