Google is further developing Gemini and including it in various products. For one, today the company announced that Android Studio's bot is getting an update with Gemini Pro.

In May 2023, as part of the Google I/O developer event, the company unveiled Studio Bot based on the PaLM-2 foundation model. The company is rolling out Gemini in Android Studio in more than 180 countries with the Android Studio Jellyfish version.

It also updated the base model for Google's Bard chatbot from PaLM-2 to Gemini Pro in February.

As with the Studio Bot, the new Gemini bot resides in the IDE and can answer coding-related questions.

This time, the company promised developers should experience higher quality answers when it comes to code completions, debugging, finding relevant resources, and even documentation writing.

Google said that, due to privacy considerations, a user must be signed in and explicitly turn on Gemini in order to use it. Furthermore, responses by the chatbot are built primarily on conversation history and context provided by the developer.
The company further noted that the users could easily get into the Gemini API starter template from Android Studio and add generative AI-powered features within the applications.

All of Google's developer-facing products aim to compete with GitHub Copilot. Last year the company brought out a Codey assistant, which used PaLM-2 to answer questions about programming and about Google Cloud Services.
