Mira Murati, CTO of OpenAI who recently announced her resignation last month, is raising VC funding for a new AI startup, Reuters reported.
This startup will reportedly build AI products on proprietary models and may raise over $100 million for this round, it said.

As she left, Murati wrote on X that the latest releases from OpenAI had "fundamentally changed how AI systems learn and reason through complex problems." "I'm stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my own exploration," she said, declining to elaborate on what she had in mind.

Before joining OpenAI in 2018 as VP of applied AI and partnerships, Murati worked at Tesla and Leap Motion. She moved on to become CTO in 2022 — and was even named interim CEO during co-founder and CEO Sam Altman's brief ouster.

Murati is just the latest in a string of OpenAI executives to resign; the company's chief research officer and VP of research announced their own departures just hours after she did. One week later, OpenAI announced that it had raised a whopping $6.6 billion in the largest VC round of all time.
