Firefox now allows users to select their preferred AI chatbot in its Nightly builds.

As browsers continue to pour AI features into their products, Mozilla wants to give users a say in the matter. This Tuesday, the company announced that it is launching an opt-in experiment to open access to different AI services in Nightly-the experimental version of Firefox.
The company plans to improve the experience before bringing it to the beta and release versions of Firefox.

Users who consented to the changes will be allowed to choose the AI service they prefer. Among the offerings of Mozilla and its planned offerings are ChatGPT, Google Gemini, HuggingChat, and Le Chat Mistral. The company promised to add more.

"It's essential for choices to be presented in AI services," Firefox Senior Vice President Ian Carmichael wrote in a blog post. "First, you should be able to choose the service that works best for you, and not be locked into a single provider. Second, all of these models are still being developed and improved. None are perfect, and each has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. Offering options gives people an opportunity to experiment with many services to find the one that's most helpful in solving the problem they have."

For example, after choosing a favorite AI service, users will be able to ask the chatbot to summarize information on a webpage or make it easier to understand, and even test their knowledge of the information.

Behind this new offering, there is the idea of giving users the ability to test a few different chatbots and choose the one they like best. Firefox comments that this offering is optional, so you don't have to pick one if you don't want to.

This comes when the trend is on, and companies like Google and Microsoft, to name a few, have recently introduced AI chatbots into their browsers. Some small browser startups, like Opera and DuckDuckGo, did the same thing and activated their AI-powered chatbots to help users with some questions related to the web page that they are browsing, or even a question.
