Elon Musk is planning to charge new X users a small fee so that they will be able to post on the social network and also reduce the bot problem.
In response to an X account who posted about changes on X's website, Musk said charging a small fee to new accounts was "the only way" to stop the "onslaught of bots."
"Current AI (and troll farms) can pass 'are you a bot' with ease," Musk said, referring to tools like CAPTCHA.
Unfortunately, only a small fee for new user write access will be able to curb the relentless onslaught of bots.

While responding to another user, Musk later added, "After three months of creation, new accounts will be able to post free of charge without having to pay a fee."
That is much harder than paying a tiny fee.
Only for New Users. They will be able to do write actions free after 3 months.

As with most of the announcements regarding the social networking site, there is no information on when this policy will be applied and what charges would the new users have to incur.
Last month, X started charging new unverified users in New Zealand and the Philippines $1 per year. New free users could sign into the platform from those regions and read the posts but could not interact with them. To post, like, repost, reply, bookmark, and quote posts, they had to pay a fee. Musk may charge the same as in other countries.
Earlier this month, X reported that the platform would initiate a massive purge of spam accounts but communicated with users beforehand so that they might be prepared for a possible impact on their follower count. However, with a plan to charge new users, the social media company seems to have a better approach to confronting the bot problem.
Today, we're launching a significant, proactive effort to remove accounts that violate our Rules against platform manipulation and spam. We know in advance that some accounts will be removed in error, and that is a tradeoff for the overall safety and lack of bots in X. A…\\

While Musk has been talking about battling AI bots, last year X updated its policy and included an element where it stated public posts can be used to train machine learning algorithms or artificial intelligence models. In July 2023, Musk made separate statements saying that his AI company xAI will utilize public posts to train models.
The company also launched Grok, a chatbot, for Premium users of X who pay $8 a month. The chatbot was initially available to users paying $16 a month for the Premium+ tier. Fortune wrote last week that X plans to make Grok available for use in composing posts.
