DoorDash has launched a new AI-driven tool called 'SafeChat+' that automatically identifies verbal abuse.

A new feature by DoorDash, AI-pushed, "SafeChat+," will automatically detect offensive language to limit verbally abusive and inappropriate interaction between consumers and delivery people.

DoorDash now employs AI technology to review in-app conversations and determine whether a customer or Dasher is harassed. Depending on the circumstances, you will be provided the option to report the scenario and, whether you are a delivery person, send an alert to DoorDash's customer support team or cancel the order immediately if you are a customer. Still, it can always cancel a delivery even though it will cost it some ratings if it is the driver who is at the receiving end of such an abuse. The user will also be alerted not to use foul language again by DoorDash.

The company claims the AI processes over 1,400 messages a minute in dozens of languages, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin. All incidents that the AI detects will be looked into by the members of the team.

SafeChat + is the upgrade of SafeChat. In the latter, it is the trust and safety team of DoorDash that hand-screen chats manually for verbal abuse. The company tells TechCrunch, " SafeChat+ is basically the same concept as SafeChat but backed by even better, even more sophisticated technology. It can understand subtle nuances and threats that don't match any specific keywords.".

"We understand that verbal harassment or abuse accounts for the biggest proportion of safety incidents on our platform. We believe that roll out of this feature will help reduce overall incidence numbers on our platform even more meaningfully," DoorDash says.

DoorDash says more than 99.99% of deliveries on its platforms do not end in safety-related incidents.

The platform also provides "SafeDash," an in-app toolkit which connects Dashers with ADT agents who could share location information and more with 911 services in case of emergency.
