Focusing on freelance workers, Contra is now a professional networking platform in partnership with TikTok, where users can expose their resumes and portfolios. Adding a link from the TikTok video to the Contra profile is allowed, and this means one can share their professional portfolio with the rest of the world.
With the new integration, creators will now be able to add a "View My Portfolio" link to their content on TikTok. The audience will then tap the link to view the Contra profile of the creator, go through the services, and send a request to collaborate.
The collaboration leads to the integration that makes it easier to share professional work and get new leads for clients. Another Jump integration is planned, and this will enable companies that are hiring to post TikTok content with a link to apply for the job directly with the viewer's Contra profile. According to the company, the partnership allows independent workers to replace their traditional resumes with more engaging methods to present work.
The app TikTok is one of the leading places through which people get career advice and hear about amazing roles, so creators must also have the ability to showcase their fantastic professional work here, the founder and CEO of Contra, Ben Huffman, explained in a statement.
Contra had just raised a $14.5 million Series A led by Unusual Ventures back in January, which saw participation from Cowboy Ventures and Li Jin's recently announced Atelier Ventures. That was followed just two weeks ago when the company brought in $30 million in Series B funding led by NEA, with Unusual Ventures and Cowboy Ventures participating as well.
The platform wants professionals to create profiles that identify themselves more with project-based identities, versus a role-based identity that one would show on LinkedIn. Contra's goal is to help independent workers create high-signal referral networks so they can land new opportunities. Unlike LinkedIn, where you can add anyone you meet and they become a "connection," Contra requires you to have work experience with your network.
The company has partnered with TikTok, allowing it to reach more millennials and Gen Z users and possibly helping them grab other opportunities. Since launching TikTok Jump in June, the social media giant has collaborated with a host of firms including Quizlet, Wikipedia, BuzzFeed and Jumprope, to enable the latter to create their own integrations within its app.
