New iOS Version Features New Capabilities, Some Already With Google Chrome. Google has announced that several new features just became part of the version of Chrome for iOS. On Tuesday, Google said that amongst them is the ability to find both images and text at the same time in Google Chrome on iOS.
While you could do this already with the Google Lens iOS app, you can now do so right from within the Chrome app. And while you could already use images to search on Chrome on iOS, you can now add text to your queries.
Google touts the new feature as helping you search for more specific, complex things, which will bring up better results. For instance, either take a picture of or upload an image of a green dress and then add the word "purple" to search Google for that item in a color you desire. Alternatively, you can take a picture of your Rosemary plant and then add the query "care instructions.".
Apple is launching this at a time when it is also announcing its in-house, onboard smart search tool on the iPhone 16 series, dubbed Visual Intelligence, which can be described as a reverse image search tool with text recognition capabilities.
The company also added that users can now free up iPhone storage by saving files and pictures from the web to Drive and Photos directly from Chrome on iOS, but only starting today. You just need to select "Google Drive" as the download destination. It will save a copy of the content in a new Drive folder named "Saved from Chrome".
In order to save an image from Chrome to Photos you can long press the image and select "Save in Google Photos".
On the other side, Google is also pushing "Shopping Insights" on Chrome for iOS to the United States. If a buyer is looking for a product that he has to make a buy, Google will now, in some cases provide him with a "Good Deal Now" notification on the address bar along with information on price history as well as many more options of purchase.
Chrome also is gaining the ability to take one tap and give a map of an address. So, should you see an address on a webpage, either searching or browsing, you can just tap the underlined address and see a mini-map of the location right in Chrome.
