The great American sports car is going partly electric. Chevy pulled the wraps off of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, featuring a dual powertrain affair. A 6.2L Small Block V8 sits behind the driver in a mid-engine configuration. There's an electric motor, too, attached to the front wheels, providing AWD and instant torque for better off-the-line launches. Together, they're bringing the Corvette into the electric future.

Chevy says this Corvette is the quickest production model ever built, with a 2.5-second 0-60 run. That time shakes the current champ, the gargantuan 2019 Corvette ZR-1 that clocks 60 mph in a blistering 2.85 seconds.

But this battery-powered sports car doesn't need to be plugged into a charger. Instead, the battery is solely fed through regenerative braking and when the vehicle is coasting.

This particular configuration has its added benefits. E-Ray, as a dual-powertrain configuration, has better eAWD. That is to say it does better on the race track as well as in worse weather conditions. Driving in all-electric mode, drivers are able to keep a speed lower than 45 mph.

This is powered by one electric motor along with the driving of the front wheels. Its production is 160 hp and 125 lb. ft of torque. Its combined output with the 6.2L V8 is 655 hp.

The Corvette E-Ray isn't the first sports car to consider two different powertrains for propulsion. It's a concept that Polestar 1 used in an affair but on a differently configured one. What it amounts to, in this case, is just that the E-Ray allows a driver to get to drive on an electric motor.

Chevy revealed that the 2024 Corvette E-Ray will start selling sometime in 2023. The MSRP starts at $104,295 for the coupe model, while the 1LZ convertible model will start at $111,295.
