In 2019, Canva, the highly successful design tool, launched what it referred to as an enterprise product. However, it was more suited for teams than for true enterprise needs. On Thursday, the company announced a revamped enterprise version designed specifically for larger organizations.
This new offering includes essential features typically expected from such products, such as single sign-on, enhanced security measures, and tools for managing larger user groups that IT departments anticipate. It also provides centralized brand management and dedicated support.
Cam Adams, co-founder and CPO of Canva, explained that in 2019, their focus was on transitioning from supporting mostly individual users to accommodating small teams of five to 100 users. Over the years, they observed larger organizations using Canva and realized they needed a product tailored to the demands of these bigger companies.
“We now have cohorts with up to 5,000 people using Canva within an enterprise, and because of that, we needed to develop a new type of Canva enterprise product to meet the needs of those larger groups. That’s exactly what we’ve delivered with Canva Enterprise,” Adams told TechCrunch.
This version aims to address three specific challenges Canva encountered as it expanded into larger organizations.
Firstly, design is no longer limited to one department; it now spans multiple sectors. Secondly, with the emergence of various AI tools, Adams has noticed that CIOs are increasingly concerned about “AI tool creep.” Finally, as more departments participate in the design process and AI becomes more integrated, a tool is required that can manage back-end user systems and facilitate workflows across different teams.
“We’re no longer just focused on empowering individuals. Our vision for the next decade of Canva is about empowering entire organizations. When we consider enterprises, we aim to unify all that fragmentation into a single platform,” he stated.
The previous version of the product is evolving into a dedicated teams product, priced at $100 per seat per year, with a minimum of three users. Meanwhile, the enterprise pricing begins at $300 per seat per year, with the option for negotiated volume-based discounts.
Founded in 2012, the Australian company has raised over $560 million, with its latest valuation reaching an impressive $26 billion. Canva currently boasts more than 180 million monthly users globally.
