Apple's Greg "Joz" Joswiak, SVP, has confirmed, through the social media site that was once called Twitter, that its World Wide Developer Conference, that happens once a year, will take place between June 10 and June 14. In what is no doubt a nod to the company's goals for its artificial intelligence efforts, the exec promises the event will be "Absolutely Incredible."

The nomenclature of the name "D" is strongly suggestive of a developer-focused event for Apple's different operating systems. The event, which most recently has been held at the Steve Jobs Theater on the company's Cupertino campus, features a variety of days spread out with panels and workshops focusing on its different ecosystems. The event also launches said ecosystems. Expect big announcements around iOS and iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11, among others.
As this will be the year since the announcement of the Vision Pro, I should see an awful lot of new developers around the headset and its visionOS operating system. Refreshes of Apple Silicon and perhaps a new line of Macs look pretty likely.
This year, though, AI probably will be front and center at the show. Appearing on the company's most recent earnings call to answer questions regarding plans to close the gap with the top competitors, including Microsoft and Google, regarding its most recent generative AI offerings, CEO Tim Cook promised the "groundbreaking innovation" would be announced later this year. WWDC is probably the most probable platform for such an announcement — and perhaps detailed information on an alleged partnership with Google on Google Gemini for the iPhone.
Apple will no doubt use Joz's sneaky backronym only to further speculation.
More rumors have pointed to iOS 18 being potentially the "biggest" update in the history of the operating system. Instead of simply leaning into generative AI and calling it a day, however, reports point to "AI tools that help manage your daily life.".
Of course, the AI smartphone concept isn't unique to Apple. Samsung had been touting it earlier in the year with the launch of the Galaxy S24 line, which was also partly dependent on Google's Gemini efforts. A month later, it was Apple's turn to claim the new M3-powered MacBook Airs are the "World's Best Consumer Laptop for AI," mainly because of the neural processing units included in its first-party SoCs.
Developers and students will get to party in person on opening day at Apple Park. This probably refers to the news-filled keynote that traditionally kicks off the show. Of course, things remain dramatically scaled down since the pre-pandemic days at the San Jose Convention Center.
There will always be only a limited number of "champions," and 50 of these will be invited to Cupertino for the in-person version of the event. The event falls just after Google I/O (May 14-15) and before Microsoft Build (May 21-24).
Just a week after DoJ announced its lawsuit against the electronics company for its monopolistic activity regarding the iPhone, this tech giant announced another such event.
