Android 15 is now rolling out for Pixel devices, carrying with it a wave of newly introduced privacy features, security tools, and foldable and tablet-specific improvements.
While it was already released last month over the Android Open Source Project, it still wasn't available for Pixel phones, tablets, and other major Android devices. Today, however, Google said that Android 15 is finally coming to Pixel devices, along with a bunch of Pixel feature updates.
One interesting feature available in Android 15 involves a "private space" for apps you might want to hide from others. Says Google: "Social, dating, and banking apps ." Any apps stashed away in private space won't appear in recent apps, notifications, or settings. Users will need further authentication to see them, and Google says people can even "hide the existence of private space from view on your phone."
For foldable devices and for tablets, Android 15 adds the ability to pin and unpin the taskbar to be able to access apps easier. Beyond that, users can now create app pairings, which is the setting of two apps that the user uses frequently side-by-side and get access to that pairing by a single icon.
Android 15 adds Theft Detection Lock, a new security feature using AI that automatically locks a phone if it senses the device has been stolen. Another feature is Remote Lock, which means the user can lock their phone using another Android device, or even using a phone number. This feature, among others, will reportedly be accessible on most devices running Android 10 or newer, with some already having gained access to them, according to Google.
In addition, Google will be introducing a Pixel feature drop in October that brings Night Sight to Instagram to improve low-light photography as well as extended controls to the Audio Magic Eraser. Next weeks will introduce media transfer between a Pixel Tablet and a Pixel phone by allowing this to occur when both devices are simply placed near each other.
