Instead of surfing the web and looking for a summary of a show on television that risks accidentally giving away gigantic plot twists, Prime Video's latest move aims at saving viewers from any spoilers.
Amazon announced yesterday "X-Ray Recaps," a generative AI-based feature that creates season- or episode-long brief recaps, even mini-episode recaps. However, the biggest claim by the company is the creation of guardrails that ensure the AI does not spew out spoilers and ruin your favorite series while surfing through.
This new feature is an extension of the X-Ray feature, which the streamers already have. It shows you information whenever you pause the screen. For example, it could give you information about the cast or other trivia.
To get to Recaps, navigate to the detail page of a TV show. Here you'll find a new rewind icon that lets you choose between three options: recap the current episode, recap the entire season so far, or recap the previous season.
Currently in beta, the service will initially be accessible only to Fire TV subscribers in the United States. Users will get access at launch on all Amazon MGM Studios original titles, such as "Daisy Jones & the Six," "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," "The Wheel of Time," and "The Boys."
More devices should go live sometime later this year.
This, explained the company in its blog post, is powered by a combination of custom AI models built with Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, analyzing video, subtitles, and dialogue for key events, conversations, and much more.
Amazon further elaborated that this feature is fully customized to the precise second of your stream. Whether you are minutes into a new episode, midway through the season, or back to a series that you've forgotten exists, X-Ray Recaps can give you short segments of what is happening in real time.
Prime Video has just announced the new feature on the heels of rival Google TV releasing AI-generated summaries, a similar tool that creates brief synopses of TV shows and movies.
